Now Jalopnik is starting in with the "auto start, full volume, right in the middle of the screen, no way to stop it" video ads that IO9 has. Quickest way in the world to make me hit the close button on a page regardless of whatever is there. It could be Christina Hendricks in all her fully frontal glory and I would still just react to the Fn blast of sound and just end the page right then and there. Can't be helped, it's just triggers that reaction in my lizard brain. "Loud noise! Make it go away!!!" So, now the Jalopnik is off limits. Please don't let this happen to Oppo.
Edit: Yes, I realize that adblock will stop this, but I have long tried to support the sites I like by allowing them to run ads. I just may have to change my policies about that. Sigh. Why can't we all just get along?

"no way to stop it"... so wrong, son. So damned wrong.

I understand. My tolerance for intrusive ads has shrunken quite a lot in recent years. I don't like to threaten the livelihood of Jalopnik, but shenanigans like these have caused me to remove the exception in my ad blocker. So now everything is blocked again.

Move to Canada. In the five or six years that I've been frequenting Jalopnik, I've only ever seen ads for two or three companies. Often it's for VW, but most of the time, there's none at all.

Yeah, it was the Mcnabb article, and something popped up, I couldn't even tell you what it was, and it was straight to the little red "x" at the top of the page. Maybe I will set my adblock and go try to read it later. Just pass along to the top that ads are fine, ads that jump out and get all up in yo grill are not fine and will get people to block all ads, or "stop ad revenue from happening" as I like to put it.

Just noticing? It's been going on for months, and it's why I hate reading articles on my phone. Those ads are delayed by about 15-20 seconds because said phone browser sucks and so the ads divert me to a new screen after I've already started reading.

I think those auto-roll video vendors just like to say "BUT LOOK, WE HAVE A 99% INTERACTION RATE ON OUR ADS! PEOPLE LOVE THEM SO MUCH!" because they count any click as an interaction.

I pretty much never surf on my phone, I have my tablet for that. I rarely go past Oppo, Jalopnik, and Photography. The few times that I have hit a link on IO9, it has made me auto kill the page, and as a result, I no longer go to IO9. This is the first time I think I have encountered the ads on Jalopnik.

I've only got my phone and my absurdly overpowered desktop. The phone only sees browsing duty when I'm at school and in between classes. Internet Explorer is alright on desktop, but lolbad on the Phone.
